Danny Bickson, Amir Alish, and Professor Carlos Guestrin founded Visual Layer in 2022 to address the challenges of managing visual data at scale. The Visual Layer platform provides a suite of tools for exploring, enriching, and extracting visual data at scale. The platform has a strong focus on data quality, which is a critical driver of model performance. By improving the underlying data and making it easier to manage, Visual Layer not only boosts accuracy of the AI models but also makes image data more actionable for traditional, non-AI workflows.
Visual data is becoming increasingly central as large models add multi-modal capabilities and companies aim to replicate the scaling laws of LLMs with image data. The former head of AI and computer vision at Tesla said their team spent as much as 75% of their time focused on data cleaning and preparation. Visual Layer’s ability to accelerate the cleaning and curation process helps address the biggest bottleneck in the process of scaling and deploying computer vision systems.
