Why did you decide to join Fundrise?
I believe we are witnessing the next wave of technology driving efficiencies in a wide range of industries.
Companies like Uber, AirBnB, and Lending Club are just a few of the many companies using tech to give consumers more power and choice.
Fundrise is leading this effort in the real estate industry. Traditionally, real estate has been a lucrative, but largely inaccessible asset.
Fundrise’s mission to change that is incredibly exciting, and I wanted to be a part of it.
What do you like most about working at Fundrise?
The caliber of people (and dogs) I get to work with every day. Coming to work is fun and rewarding.
What is the most challenging part of your work?
Striking a balance between adding every possible feature to software and releasing a slightly less in-depth version more quickly to see how users actually use it.
Engineers have a tendency to want to handle every use case, when in reality it’s more important to get something in the hands of the user, and then refine accordingly based on how they use (or don’t use) it.
How did you first break into your field?
I was a relative latecomer to the technology field.
I went to school to learn computer science, and spent a lot of nights and weekends using books and the Internet to fill in the gaps.
What is the best advice you’ve received?
Every day, find a way to make yourself 1% better than the day before.
